D&E Upward Bound Prepares for Virtual Classic Summer Program

ELKINS – Davis & Elkins College Upward Bound TRiO Assistant Directors Alison Shields, left, and Kate Dillon prepare take-home summer packets to be delivered to Upward Bound students participating in the Classic Summer Program. The year’s class includes 92 rising juniors and seniors from Randolph, Barbour, Tucker, Pocahontas and Pendleton counties. Beginning June 1, students will take classes via Zoom in math, science, financial literacy, foreign language and test preparation. In addition, they will participate in virtual college tours and career research. Virtual field trips, as well as virtual wellness and cultural activities, will be made available to the students. A federally funded TRiO program, Upward Bound is designed to prepare high school students for post-secondary success. The Davis & Elkins College Upward Bound Programs receive funding from the U.S. Department of Education through two Title IV grants and provides service to students at no cost.
