A rising senior from Coalton, West Virginia with a double major in elementary education and special education, Hannah Phillips works in the Admission office as a student ambassador. She enjoys sharing her love of Davis & Elkins College with prospective students and their families.

We asked Hannah why she chose D&E, what she likes the most about the College, how her experience would have been different if she had gone to another school and what she tells visiting students about her personal experience. Here is what she had to say:

Hannah commented, “When I started looking at colleges, it was super important to me to stay close to my family, so when I started looking at D&E and saw how much financial aid I would receive, it was almost a no-brainer. Between the Highlands Scholarship and the Underwood-Smith scholarship, my tuition is basically paid for!”

She added, “The best part of college is the people – from my professors to my peers, I have always been so supported in reaching my goals.”

When asked what she would have missed had she gone to another school, Hannah said, “I think that if I had gone elsewhere to pursue my college degree, I would have missed out on becoming the person that I am. While at D&E my confidence has grown immensely and I feel that I have become a better leader and overall person.”

Hannah shared her message to prospective students by saying, “When I am speaking to prospective students, I always share with them my personal experience with class sizes. Many are shocked to find out that while at D&E the largest class I have been in was with 30 students. I think it is important for them to know that they will be getting individualized attention from professors and always making meaningful connections.”

Her final words were of gratitude to our alumni and friends whose gifts have made her education possible. Hannah said, “I can’t thank the donors enough for this opportunity. Without the scholarships I have received, I may not have been financially able to attend Davis & Elkins College. I know I speak for my fellow classmates in thanking everyone for their generosity in supporting us and D&E.”
