Davis & Elkins College celebrates the 45th year of Déjà Vu Music Festival at Citizens Bank of West Virginia Amphitheatre on the campus of D&E with headliner, Smash Mouth on Saturday, April 26th.  Gates for the event open at 7:00 p.m., with tickets for general admission set at $25 per person and free access granted to those presenting a valid D&E I.D.

Beginning in 1980 and growing immensely over the last four-and-a-half decades, Déjà Vu has featured such pivotal music artists as Dierks Bentley, Flogging Molly, Brothers Osborne, Vanilla Ice, and O.A.R., among others.  The last public Déjà Vu hosting brought Chase Matthews to the campus of the College, whose song “County Line” debuted at No. 29 on Hot Country Songs and No. 10 on Country Digital Song Sales.

Coordinator of Campus Activities provides insight on the meaning of the festival, stating, “Déjà vu means ‘already seen’ in French – that feeling of familiarity with a new situation, a connection to paste experiences, fate, and also a glimpse into the future.  So, we are perfectly embracing the name and celebrating the past while looking to the future with a decades party, inflatables on the lawn, and, of course, an amazing concert!  Smash Mouth is perfect, having hits from the 90’s and then made even more popular amongst new fans with Shrek.  As mentioned by Yogi Berra, ‘This is like déjà vu all over again!”

Smash Mouth is best known for their three consecutive albums charting in the Billboard 200, with their album, “Astro Lounge”, charting highest at No. 6.  Their hit song “All Star” charted at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is featured in DreamWorks Animations’ film, “Shrek”.  Dickens is a Nashville-based Americana artist with a music career spanning West Virginia, Tennessee, and areas of the west coast.  Her latest album, “All I’m Missing”, is available on all major streaming platforms. Stalnaker Hill are a new-to-scene West Virginia bluegrass group, performing across areas of the state.

“Davis & Elkins College is cranking up the excitement as we celebrate 45 years of Déjà Vu – and this year, we’re bringing the greatest in ‘throwback vibes’ with Smash Mouth as our headliner!” says Dean of students Kate Garlick.  “This festival is the epic ‘last blast’ for our students before the semester winds down, packed with unforgettable music, high-energy fun, and memories that will never fade.  Plus, it’s the perfect chance for our students and the Elkins community to come together and rock out, reminisce, and make new memories!  Get ready to party, Elkins!  Don’t miss out – this is one for the books!”
