Davis & Elkins College is preparing for a lively Homecoming Weekend from October 11-13, celebrating its 120th academic year. The festivities will feature a range of activities for alumni, families, and friends, including dedications, award ceremonies, and athletic events.
Friday, October 11 will kick off with the dedication of the Varchetto Village on Spruce Street. In the evening, a special gathering with President Chris A. Wood and First Lady Lisa Wood will take place, where new members of the Half-Century Club and Alumni Award recipients will be honored at Myles Center for the Arts. This year’s awardees include Robin Stillwater, ’13, ’14, Outstanding Young Alumni; Dana Marzolf, ’81, Alumni Volunteer Award; Cindy Stinger, ’81, Distinguished Alumna; and Kathryn Dunbar Ramsdell, ’74, Tower Award.
The evening will conclude with Casino Night in the Myles Center for the Arts, Joni and Buck Smith Arts Forum. Proceeds will benefit student scholarships.
Saturday, October 12 will see a variety of events including tour and dedication of the Glory Residence Hall, where alumna Kathy Dunbar Ramsdell, who was instrumental in completing the Hall through the “Creating Home: It Takes a Village” Campaign, will be specially recognized. Men’s Soccer will face off against Salem University on Nuttall Field, with a tribute to 1961’s inaugural Men’s Soccer Co-Captains Gary Horvath, ’62, and Bill McQuary, ’62. The day will also feature Athletic Hall of Fame inductions at the McDonnell Center, recognizing Jennifer “Kay” Kirby Jeter, ’78; Kevin Logan, ’78; Jared Meabon, ’01; Steve Meddings, ’94; Nicole “Cole” Dant Morris, ’11; and Kendall Walkes, ’84.
The evening will feature the first Senator Spectacular & Auction to support Senator Nation Athletics, and the annual Chapel and Memorial Service led by Dr. Franklin Tanner Capps, Benfield-Vick Chaplain.
