COVID-19 Update, March 23, 2020

Dear Davis & Elkins College community

Davis & Elkins College will be upgraded to Pandemic Protocol Level II in anticipation of the further need for social distancing in the fight against COVID-19. This action will occur by the close of business Tuesday, March 24, 2020.

The upgrade to Level II means all employees are hereby directed to work from home or at a self-quarantined location, except for those determined (by the executive leadership) to be essential personnel to sustain the ongoing operations of the physical campus. Those employees have been so notified prior to this campus-wide communication.

We have a remaining student population of 15 in the Byrd Conference Center.  These students are without means or ability to travel home and thus are sheltering in place. They will require ongoing support and services as will all our students continuing to make academic progress through online delivery.

If you can secure materials, technology, and direction by the close of business today (3/23/20) then you may begin working from home immediately.  If you need another day on campus to prepare, please do so while exercising extreme caution and plan to begin remote work plans 3/24/20.

Supervisors must share remote work plans and expectations with the Office of Human Resources by the close of business 3/24/20. Mechanisms for assessment and regular remote interaction must be in place in order to proceed.

If we can slow down this pandemic, it will help the preparedness of our regional health care professionals and not stress the capacity of our healthcare system. The safety and well-being of the D&E community remains our number one priority.
