Michael Imhotep, founder of The African History Network, will serve as guest speaker for the Davis & Elkins College civic dinner and discussion commemorating the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The event, open in person to the campus community and to the public via Zoom, will take place at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17 in Myles Center for the Arts Senate Commons.
Imhotep’s presentation is sponsored by the D&E Black Student Union, the Presidential Initiative on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and the Morrison-Novakovic Center for Faith and Public Policy. Imhotep’s discussion is titled “Reckoning with Racial Injustice.”
“In his book, ‘Strength to Love,’ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. states, ‘The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy,’” Goux said. “It is time for our community to awaken from the dream and take action where we stand to correct the evils of our society and build true equity. We are excited to present Michael Imhotep, a phenomenal historian who will connect the past to current solutions.”
A lecturer, historian and educator, Imhotep is the host of “The African History Network Show” on radio 910 AM The Superstation WFDF Detroit. The program can be heard six nights per week, Monday through Friday from 11 p.m. EST to midnight, and Sundays from 9-11 p.m. With the moto “right knowledge corrects wrong behavior,” his show focuses on educating, empowering and inspiring people of African descent throughout the diaspora and around the world. He also is a weekly panelist on the daily digital show, “Roland Martin Unfiltered” every Friday.
He is the former host of the nationally syndicated radio show, “The Michael Imhotep Show” on The Empowerment Radio Network and has been a guest host on national radio shows including “The Warren Ballentine Show” and “The Roland Martin Show.”
A native of Detroit, Michigan, Imhotep holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Wayne State University. There he studied African history, culture, spirituality and economic empowerment and entrepreneurship which led to the creation of The African History Network. He also has managed a business consulting and training company and taught at a community college and for non-profit organizations.
